Get web hosting and domain name registration

In order to set up WordPress (or another website), you will need two things:

Domain name (web address like YourSiteName.com)
Web hosting (service that connects your website to the internet)
To store your website images, content and files, you will need web hosting. Without web hosting, your website will not be visible on the Internet.

Owning your own domain name appears to be more professional than owning your site on someone else’s domain (like yourbusiness.my-free-website.com), and it’s also very affordable. Most hosting providers offer free domains for one year (usually around $ 15 a year).

In short – without your web hosting and domain name, your website will not be there.

3. Choose the domain name

If you don’t have a domain name yet, here’s an easy starting point:

If you are creating a website for your business, your domain name must match your company name. For example, YourCompanyName.com
If you are planning to set up your own website, YourName.com can be a great option.

Domain names usually end in .com, .org, or .net, but in recent months, a massive amount of domain extensions (the last part of the web address, such as .com) have appeared, from .agency to .pizza.

Our best advice? Avoid exotic extensions and go with .com, .net, or .org only if it describes exactly what you have to offer – and even then, you can see if you can find a more popular name.

If you already have a domain name, just enter it and click “Next” on the “I have a domain name” form.

If you are not ready to immediately pick a range of bats, you can do so at a later stage in preparing your website.

4. Fill out your account details

To create your account, just enter your personal information on the “Create your account” page.

You will need to add your first name, last name, country, street and city address, zip code, phone number and email address. Your receipt will be sent to the email address you enter here.

5. Check “package information” and end registration

Step 2 – Preparing your website

Once you’ve purchased your domain name and set up hosting, you’re on your way!

It is time to activate your website. The first thing you need to do is install WordPress on your domain.

There are two possible ways to install WordPress, one is much easier than the other.

1. To create a website using WordPress.

Nearly every reliable and established hosting company has included a one-click install of WordPress, which makes getting surprising.

If you have partnered with Bluehost or any other similar hosting company, you should find “One-click installation” in the control panel of your account.

Here are the steps to follow (should be similar / similar in all major web hosting companies):

  • Log in to your Bluehost hosting account.
  • Go to your dashboard.
  • Look for the “WordPress” or “Website” icon.
  • Choose the domain where you want to install your new website.
  • Click the “Install Now” button and you will get access to the new WordPress website.

Step 3 Design your website

1. Log in to the WordPress dashboard

Once you enter the dashboard, you can access over 1500 free themes! Just search in the sidebar for “Appearance”, then click “Appearance.”

But before doing that, we really suggest you at least spend some time browsing the free themes. Many of them are actually really professional and well made; so do not cross them off.

You can search for specific keywords and / or use filters to find themes that fit your style. It may take some time to find the perfect look, but it’s worth it.

You should also search for “responsive” features, because this means it will look great on any mobile device.

3. Install your new theme

Once you find a theme you want, installing it is as simple as clicking “Install” followed by “Activate.”

Step 4 Adding content to your website

With your theme installed, you’re ready to start creating content. Let’s quickly go through some of the basics:

Want to link your new page to your navigation bar?

  • Save any changes you made to the page by clicking “Update”
  • Click “Appearance” -> “Menus” in the sidebar of the WordPress dashboard
  • Find the page you created and add it to the list by clicking the checkbox next to it and then “Add to List”.

If you have a blog on your website, “posts” will be the place to go next. You can use different categories to collect similar posts.

WordPress categories If you want to add a blog to your website, you can use different categories and posts. Let’s say you want to create a category called “Blog”. Simply add it to your list and start posting.

Here’s what you need to do:

a. Create a new category by going to “Posts -> Categories”

B. Create a blog post by going to “Posts -> Add New”. Once you have written your blog post, you will need to add the appropriate category to that.

Once you create your category, simply add it to the list, and you are in the business!

Page titles show researchers what your website is. It’s also a big part of how search engines determine your rankings. You want to be sure that you’ve got the keywords you want to target (but in a natural way, written for real people).

You must use a unique title on every page of your site. For example, the title of our website is “How to create a website.”

(Can’t find it? Just place your cursor over the tab at the top of your web browser).

To change the title and logo on your website, go to “Settings -> General” and fill out the form below:

Disable comments for pages and pages

Some websites (mostly business / organization sites) don’t want their visitors to be able to comment on their pages.

Here’s how to close comments on WordPress pages:

1. While writing a new page, click “Screen Options” in the upper right corner.

2. Click the ‘Discussion’ box. The “Allow comments” box will appear below.

3. Uncheck “Allow Comments”.

1. Go to “Settings -> Discussion” and uncheck “Allow people to post comments on new articles”.

Set up a static front page

Some people called me saying they feel frustrated because their home page looks like a blog post. You can fix this by making your homepage “static”.

A fixed page is a page that does not change. Unlike the blog, where the first new article will be displayed at the top each time, a “static” page will show the same content every time someone comes to the site – like the home page you designed.

To set up a static front page:

1. Go to “Settings -> Reading”

2. Choose a fixed page you created. “Front page” refers to your home page. The “Post Pages” page is the first page of your blog (if your entire site is not a blog).

If you don’t choose a fixed page yourself, WordPress will take your most recent posts and start showing them on your homepage.

Most WordPress themes have a sidebar on the right (in some cases it is on the left).

If you want to get rid of the sidebar or edit items you don’t need like “Categories”, “Definition” and “History”, which are usually meaningless, here’s how:

1. Go to “Appearance -> Tools” in the WordPress dashboard.

2. From here, you can use drag and drop to add different “boxes” to the sidebar or remove items you don’t want.

There is also an “HTML Box” – a text box where you can use HTML code. For starters, don’t worry about it – just drag and drop the items you want in the sidebar.
